Privacy Policy
A clear explanation of how Backgammon Online handles personal information while players connect, chat and enjoy the game.
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Our approach
Backgammon Online is a club for players from around the world. We aim to collect only the information needed to run the club, protect players and improve their experience. Player profiles, rankings and match results may be visible to other members, while Inbox messages and in-game communications are intended for their participants.
01 Who operates the club
Backgammon Online ("the Club", "we", "us") is owned and operated by CloseToLimit Services, which is responsible for handling personal information processed through the website in accordance with applicable data protection law.
For privacy enquiries or requests, contact us through our Contact Us page or email backgammononlineclub@gmail.com.
02 Information we collect
The information we may process depends on the features you use:
- Account details: email address, nickname, country, selected or uploaded avatar, authentication information and account preferences.
- Account access: information needed to authenticate accounts, manage sign-in sessions, verify registrations and process password resets.
- Game activity: matches, opponents, game results, ratings or points, levels, rankings and participation records where those features are enabled.
- Player interactions: friend requests, match challenges, Inbox messages and their read status, and in-game chat content where processed by the service.
- Technical information: authentication and guest-player cookies, the browser timezone supplied by your device, browser or device details, IP addresses and server or security logs where collected.
Guest matches may use a temporary player token and invitation information to connect players without requiring a registered account.
03 How we use information
- Create and manage player accounts and sign-in sessions.
- Connect players for matches and operate invitations, scores and rankings.
- Display the nickname, avatar, country and relevant game activity in club areas where these features are enabled.
- Manage friend requests, challenges, Inbox notifications and in-game chat, and investigate potential cheating or breaches of club rules.
- Maintain website security, troubleshoot problems, prevent misuse and display dates and times in your browser timezone.
- Respond to privacy requests and meet applicable legal obligations.
04 Legal bases for processing
Where EU/EEA data protection law applies, processing may be based on providing the service requested by the player, our legitimate interests in operating a secure and fair club, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where required. The appropriate basis depends on the specific activity and must reflect the Club's actual implementation.
05 Public areas and visibility
Public and private information are different. Player nicknames, avatars, countries, ranks and match-related statistics may be shown in club profiles and rankings. Inbox messages are intended for their recipients, and in-game chat is intended for the players in that match, rather than for public posting.
Messages and game interactions may be processed by the service and accessed where necessary for security, technical support or investigations, subject to applicable law and access controls. Avoid including passwords, addresses or other sensitive information in messages or game chat.
06 Sharing and service providers
We may use hosting, email delivery and other technical service providers to operate the website. These providers may process information needed to deliver their services. We may also disclose information where legally required or reasonably necessary to investigate abuse and protect the Club.
We do not present player information as a product for sale to advertisers. Any future analytics, advertising or additional integrations must be disclosed here before use.
08 Retention and account deletion
We retain account information, player interactions, Inbox messages, match results and technical records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including club operation, security, handling disputes and compliance with legal obligations. Retention periods may differ by record type.
Members can use their account settings to deactivate their account. To request deletion of personal information, please contact us through the Contact Us page. Deactivation does not necessarily delete existing records. Some information, including historical match results or records needed for security or legal obligations, may need to be retained.
We review retention and deletion requests according to the type of information, the reason it is held and applicable legal requirements. You may contact us to ask about the retention of a particular category of personal information.
09 Your privacy rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. Some requests are subject to legal exceptions.
Under applicable EU/EEA rules, you may also lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.
10 Players from every country
Our club welcomes players worldwide. Because players and service providers can be located in different countries, information may cross borders. Where international transfers are regulated, appropriate safeguards must be used.
11 Changes and contact
We may update this policy as features or practices change. The latest version and its update date will be published on this page.
For questions about privacy or requests concerning your personal data, use our Contact page or email backgammononlineclub@gmail.com.
